Did JESUS end SIN?

Jesus came to end the power of sin, which is death, by laying down his life “for his friends” and then rising again he demonstrated his power over death (eternal death).

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25‭-‬26).

“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the DEVIL— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Hebrews 2:14‭-‬15

God forgives sins:
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:7‭-‬10).

Walking in the light means you are genuinely living a life pleasing to God and you continue to strive not to do the sinful things you did when you used to “walking in the dark”. It’s a process of purification (sanctification) but it doesn’t mean you won’t ever have moments where you will stumble and fall. If we claim we have not sinned we lie. These are situations where you pray to God for forgiveness.

But if you deliberately walk “in the dark” by committing murder, prostitution, human trafficking, drunkenness etc then you will bring the wrath of God upon yourself.

Why can we not stop sinning? While the law is holy and good, however, because we are human, wherever the law is, there is sin. Sin is the breaking of the law. The law is accusatory but Jesus’s covenant of mercy saves us

Jesus said:”Do not think that I will ACCUSE you to the Father: there is one that ACCUSETH you, even MOSES, in whom ye trust.” John 5:45

The law (which came with Moses) therefore curses us but the mercy of Jesus on the cross cleanses us. Which is why John said:
“For the LAW was given by Moses, but GRACE and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
John 1:17

“Christ redeemed us from the CURSE OF THE LAW, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed be every one who hangs on a tree” (Galatians 3:13).

“The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)
