Is the Bible RELIABLE?

Although the Bible was written by over 40 authors over a period of over 1 500, there is harmony between the Old Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. It is remarkable! The Old and New Testaments complement and complete each other.

This does not mean that there are no TEXTUAL DIFFERENCES in the bible, but there is a difference between contradictions and textual differences.

Christians have never made the false claim of perfect (100%) preservation of the Bible that Muslims make about the preservation of the Qur’an: that the Qur’an is preserved from day ONE (Only for Muslim scholars to backtrack now and admit that there are HOLES in the Standard (traditional) Islamic Narrative of the perfect preservation of the Qur’an from Day ONE). The scholars deliberately hide this from the average Muslim who continues to ignorantly believe in the perfect preservation of the Qur’an from day one!

The beauty of the Bible is that the New Testament, even with its KNOWN textual differences and additions, can be tested against the Old Testament Hebrew scripture and it still remains standing where as if a similar test is applied against the Qur’an, the Qur’an falls apart in it’s contradiction, for example, of the God of the Torah as our FATHER, the SONSHIP and ETERNITY of the Messiah.

The Quran comes to break the chain of narration between the Old Hebrew Testament and New Testament because it is not inspired by the true God whose special, eternal, and covenant name (which he revealed to mankind through Moses) is “the God of Abraham, Isaac and the God of Jacob” (Exodus 3:15) but by a demonic angel claimed by Muhammad’s wife (Khadijah) to be the real angel Gabriel of the Bible! Allah, the 7th century imitation of the true God, has 99 names but none of those names are the special, eternal and covenant name of the true God. Even if the Qur’an were perfectly preserved from day one, it would still remain a perfectly preserved false book in the same way, one will argue, that Hitler’s book (Mein Kampf) will remain preserved word for word for thousands of years to come. Its preservation does not make it holy.

Old Testament textual variances arise not because God contradicted himself but because although the Masoretic Text counts as the authoritative form of the Hebrew Bible according to Rabbinic Judaism, modern scholars seeking to understand the history of the Hebrew Bible use different sources from different time periods. These include the Greek Septuagint, the Syriac language Peshitta translation, the Samaritan Pentateuch, the Dead Sea Scrolls collection. This sometimes leads to minor differences in numbers or age groups of certain figures in the bible, which Muslims then ignorantly use as examples of contradictions in the bible!

In the New Testament there is an addition to the the book of Mark 16:9-20, which were not in the original text. However, these changes are normally formatted differently or put in brackets to show that they were not in the original manuscript. Do the additions change anything? No. If you read the additional verses, they do not contradict any other verse of Scripture. In fact, the additional text is similar to other verses already in the Gospels.  From Mark (16:9-10) We get no additional information about the events in Jesus life, or His resurrection. This ending in Mark speaks of baptism, Jesus appearing to the disciples, ascension of Jesus and the disciples preaching the word to the world (which are already common knowledge in the rest of the Gospels).

The other additions are John 8:1-11 and 1 John 5:7.

The textual variances do not change any one theological understanding of God as supported by the Hebrew Old Testament scripture:

A. Jesus is the Son of God (1 Chronicles 17:11-15, Isaiah 9:6, Daniel 7:13-14, Luke 1:31)
B. Jesus died for the sins of many (Isaiah 53)

Where is the Qur’an from the time of Uthman? It’s not there.
