What does the QUR’AN ACTUALLY says about the PRESERVATION of the TORAH and GOSPEL?

It’s shockingly common for the majority of Muslims to go with what they and dishonest scholars BELIEVE (such as the lie that the Torah and Gospel became CHANGED so Allah sent the Qur’an to REPLACE them) rather than going with what the Qur’an ACTUALLY SAYS about the PRESERVATION of the Torah and Gospel at the time of Muhammad IN THE 7TH CENTURY.

Muhammad’s cousin, Waraqa bin Naufal, had an Arabic translation of the Gospel IN THE 7TH CENTURY (Sahih al-Bukhari 3392) and one of Islam’s important scholar, Ibn Ishaq, (died around 767 AD), who wrote the oldest biography (called the “Sira” or “Sirat” of the prophet of Islam), quotes John 15:23-16:1 in the 8TH CENTURY in an effort to prove that Muhammad is the “Spirit of Truth” to come.

I sympathize with Muslims because it is impossible to believe both the Qur’an and the Gospel to be true at the same time, although the Qur’an does claim and CONFIRMS both the Torah and Gospel as Allah’s revelation/word ‘which remain’ (is unchanged) and which Jews and Christians must ‘judge themselves by’ and which they had ‘with them’ in the 7th century or else they are ‘NON BELIEVERS’ or ‘DISOBEDIENT’.

It’s a horrible contradiction for Muslims to live with because it is what happens when a false god falsely claims the Torah and Gospel to be his word. So the Muslim is left between a rock and a hard place: he/she has no choice really but to misrepresent both the Qur’an and the Gospel inorder to maintain confidence in the Qur’an! Beloved Muslim, have you ever felt this way too?

The Muslim is left with no choice but to believe in (conspiracy theories) the myth of a book called the “Gospel of Jesus Christ” which either disappeared or got corrupted/changed (by the Romans, Greek philosophers or the Church/Nicea) before the Qur’an came as a final revelation to “replace”, “restore” or “correct” what had been corrupted!
So what does the Qur’an actually say?

Sura 7:156-157:
“And I will write down (my mercy) for those who are righteous and give alms and who believe in our signs; who follow the apostle, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in the Torah and the Gospel “THAT IS WITH THEM.”

The Torah and Gospel have not disappeared! They are “with them” (the Jews and Christians) in the 7th century!

5:43. And how should they appoint you their judge whilst they HAVE WITH THEM the Torah which contains the law (and judgment) of Allâh. Yet they turn their backs even after that (you judge between them). And such people ARE NOT TRUE BELIEVERS (neither in the Qur’ân nor in the Torah).

It’s clear that the Jews, as late as the 7th century, are commanded to judge by the Torah, not the Qur’an (see also QS 2:40-44)

5:47. And let the followers of the EVANGEL judge according to what Allâh has revealed therein. And indeed those who DO NOT JUDGE according to what Allâh has revealed it is these who are the real DISOBEDIENT”. So Allah claims the Torah and Gospel to be his WORD (Wahi).

It’s clear that Christians, as late as the 7th century, must judge by the Gospel otherwise they are “disobedient”

Sura 5:50:
“And let the People of the Gospel judge by what God has revealed in it. If any fail to judge by what God has revealed, THEY ARE LICENTIOUS.”

Sura 5:71:
“Say, O People of the Book! You are not (founded) on anything UNTIL you PERFORM the TORAH and the GOSPEL, and what was revealed to you from your Lord.” Clearly, Allah claims the Torah to be his WORD which the Jews and Christians are commanded to practice otherwise they are lost.

The Qur’an further confirms that the Torah and Gospels were not corrupted nor disappeared as late as the 7th century. They still EXISTED.
3:3. He has revealed to you gradually this perfect Book (-the Qur’ân) which meets all your requirements, fulfilling that (prophecies in the Scriptures) which PRECEDED it AND WHICH STILL REMAIN. He revealed the Torah and the Evangel”

Note that the Qur’an doesn’t say which “partly remains” or is incomplete. NOWHERE is the Qur’an saying that it is REPLACING the Torah and Gospel nor instructing the Jews and Christians to STOP using the Torah and Gospel.

If Muslims claim (incorrectly so) that the Torah and Gospel were corrupted, when would that have been? BEFORE or AFTER Muhammad?
Can you provide VERSES or answers to any ONE of the FOLLOWING SIX questions in line with what the QUR’AN ACTUALLY teaches about the PRESERVATION of the Torah and Gospel (and not according to conspiracy theories, fiction or disinformation):
QUESTION 1: The Qur’an says Muhammad is found written in the Torah and Gospel (QS 7:156-157 and 61:6). If the Gospel books are written by anonymous Romans, the Greek or Paul, then why do early and modern Muslim scholars claim to find Muhammad written in the book of John to prove that Muhammad is the (Parakletos) “Spirit of Truth” to come? In particular, one of Islam’s important scholar, Ibn Ishaq, (died around 767 AD), who wrote the oldest biography (called the “Sira” or “Sirat” of the prophet of Islam), quotes John 15:23-16:1 and says that it is taken from the Gospel (Injeel) of Jesus Al Masih, “which the Apostle John wrote down for Jesus’s followers.” [The Life of Muhammad: A Translation of Ibn Ishaq’s Sirat Rasul Allah pp.103-104].

If the book of John is not inspired by the true God, why (as late as the 8TH CENTURY) would the earliest Muslim scholars find Muhammad in a Harry Potter like novel (since this is your claim about the book of John) instead of going to the Gospel? This makes no sense whatsoever unless (which is the truth here) the book of John was and is part of the Gospel!

Is this not HUGE EVIDENCE of the reliability of the Gospel and the existence of KNOWN writers like Matthew, Mark, Luke and John (rather than ANONYMOUS writers) who were as inspired by the Holy Spirit as Moses was?

It’s tough! Muslims can’t, in the same sentence both quote from the book of John to find Muhammad and then in the same sentence claim it’s written by an anonymous pagan writer and not part of the Gospel. Only Muslims are capable, through hypocrisy, of uniting these two extreme opposites! Neither Muhammad (who confirmed the Torah and Gospels to be preserved and in the hands of Jews and Christians in the 7th century) nor Muslim scholars ever quoted or recited even a single verse from a so-called “Gospel of Jesus Christ” which once existed before Muhammad but then disappeared! It’s just a plain lie and an desperate effort to wish away the Gospels which reject the later teaching of the Qur’an brought by a fallen and mysterious angelic creature which Khadijah’s cousin, Waraqah, gave the name “Jibreel” to.

As a coping mechanism to deal with the opposing teachings of the Injeel and the Qur’an, Muslims have to claim “corruption” or “disappearance”. Neither Muhammad (despite confirming the Torah and Gospel) nor early Muslim scholars ever quoted or recited a single verse from a mythical “Gospel of Jesus Christ” which once existed but then disappeared. It’s just a plain lie and an desperate effort to wish away the Gospels which reject the later teaching of the Qur’an.

QUESTION 2: Why would Allah, whom you believe to be a perfect God, instruct Muslims (QS 7:156-157 and 61:6) to go to the Gospel and Torah to find Ahmed (Muhammad) if the Gospel had already disappeared or had been partly corrupted by the 7th century?
Did Allah, in the 7th century, direct Jews and Christians to his corrupted word?
If the Gospel disappeared, WHY in the 7TH CENTURY was the Christian Waraqa bin Naufal (Sahih al-Bukhari 3392) [whom Muhammad turned to for help after seeing the mysterious angel claimed to be the angel Gabriel of the Bible] reading from an ARABIC TRANSLATION of the GOSPEL?

QUESTION 3: With reference to the Qur’an, in QS18:27 Allah says “There is none who can CHANGE His word”.
Does Allah claim the Torah and Gospel to be his word too? Yes (QS 3:3)

Is there anywhere in the Qur’an where Allah EXPLICITLY says that he has chosen to protect ONLY the Qur’an from being changed (corrupted) BUT NOT THE TORAH AND GOSPEL?

QUESTION 4: In QS 3:3 Allah says that he sent the Torah and Gospel and they “STILL REMAIN”. This means they were PHYSICALLY PRESENT and UNCHANGED (as evidence of their protection from corruption by Allah) as late as THE 7TH CENTURY. So who is wrong about the preservation of the Torah and Gospel: Allah or Muslims?
Can you provide a VERSE where the Qur’an says only a part or fraction of the Torah and Gospel remain?

QUESTION 5: If the Quran is RIGHT about Jesus not being crucified, doesn’t this mean the Qur’an is WRONG when it claims that no one can corrupt Allah’s word? Wouldn’t Allah’s claim that his word cannot be changed be false, since the Christians would have “corrupted” the Gospel to include the crucifixion and resurrection account, with Jesus even proving his crucifixion to the disciples?

QUESTION 6: In QS 5:43 Allah is saying the JEWS must not crossover to the Qur’an but stick to their Torah! “And how should they appoint you their judge whilst they HAVE WITH THEM the Torah which contains the law (and judgment) of Allâh. Yet they turn their backs even after that (you judge between them). And such people ARE NOT TRUE BELIEVERS.

Allah demands the same of Christians in the 7th century: QS 5:47. “And let the followers of the EVANGEL judge according to what Allâh has revealed therein. And indeed those who DO NOT JUDGE according to what Allâh has revealed it is these who are the real DISOBEDIENT.

Allah is saying the Jews and Christians have his perfect word, the Torah and Gospel, IN THE 7TH CENTURY and must not abandon them but they must perform or judge themselves by, otherwise they are DISOBEDIENT.

Muslims on the other hand say when the Qur’an came, the Torah and Gospel were already corrupted and the Jews and Christians were no longer to judge themselves by the Torah and Gospel.
Who is WRONG: Allah or Muslims?

Provide a VERSE from the Qur’an which explicitly says that  the Qur’an came to REPLACE, RESTORE or CORRECT the Torah and Gospel?

Finally, the claim of a “Gospel” not written by Mathew, Mark, Luke and John is therefore not only ignorant, dishonest and transparently false but it also goes against the teaching of the Qur’an. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not a book but the good news or message of the kingdom of God which Jesus was sharing in the places he went to.

The conclusion is this: besides the fiction, disinformation and conspiracy theories of Muslims (not the Qur’an), there is no manuscript or oral evidence of a mythical book called the “Gospel of Jesus Christ” anywhere between the first and the 7th century. The New Testament from BEFORE and AFTER the the 7th century has been preserved in more manuscripts (complete and fragmented) than any other work. Historically and archeologically the only Torah and Gospel the Jews and Christians have ever had with them (BEFORE, DURING and AFTER their confirmation by the Qur’an in the 7th century) are the God-breathed books (2 Timothy 3:16) which make up the five books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy) and the four gospel accounts (according to Mathew, Mark, Luke and John) found in and identical to the modern Bible today of whichever translation, update or version (ALL of which state that Jesus Christ is the Son of God crucified on the cross).

While the claim is that Muhammad was illiterate, it doesn’t mean he was dumb, deaf or dull. Muhammad was called “all ears” (QS 9:61) because he was borrowing from belief systems around him (including Syriac Christian tradition, tales and the Talmud) around him inorder to attract converts to his new religion [hence his initial acceptance (to the delight of the Quraysh) of the pagan Quraysh goddesses Al-Lat, al-‘Uzza, and Manat as intercessors] to the extent that you have the dilemma of the Qur’an confirming scriptures like the Torah and Gospels which reveal a different God (the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) who is NOT Allah of the Qur’an even though the Qur’an falsely claims so (QS 29:46).
Blessings!

  1. Dear Mrs. TruthDM,
    Refer to my answers below…

    You said:
“I sympathize with Muslims because it is impossible to believe both the Qur’an and the Gospel to be true at the same time, although the Qur’an does claim and CONFIRMS both the Torah and Gospel as Allah’s revelation/word ‘which remain’ (is unchanged) and which Jews and Christians must ‘judge themselves by’ and which they had ‘with them’ in the 7th century or else they are ‘NON BELIEVERS’ or ‘DISOBEDIENT’.”

Who says is it is impossible to believe in the Quran, Torah and Gospel at the same time? I think you are under the assumption that the ONLY scriptures Jews and Christians during Muhammad’s time had something similar of Pentateuch and Gospels manuscripts before them. This is not the case as from the narrations of the Companions and the commentaries, it is possible that they had a different Torah and Gospel as well, as these narrations are not found in the bible we have today.

To assume the Torah and Gospel in the Quran corresponds to the entirety of Five Books of Moses and entirety of the 4 gospels, NT or Christ’s alleged vicarous atonement is totally your subjective view and a baseless allegation. First of all we do not know 100% if the Torah mentioned in the Quran is the entirety of the five books or not, and the Gospel of vicarious atonement is absent from the Quran and never occurred.

Suppose there are two songs named “Hello”. Just because they have the same name doesn’t mean they are the same song.

    Moving on…
    You said:
The Qur’an says Muhammad is found written in the Torah and Gospel (QS 7:156-157 and 61:6).

Below I’ll give a few narrations regarding the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in scriptures of the Arabian Jews and Christians. These verses that are mentioned by Islamic scholars are not present in any of the Torah and Gospels we have today, implying textual corruptions.

You asked me something along the lines of “Why does Allah not show Muhammad in the Torah?”

The Torah and the Quran both described Muhammad as a witness, a bearer of good tidings, and a warner, both in harmony and confirming each other:

‘Ata’ ibn Yasar reported: I met Abdullah ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, and I said, “Tell me about the description of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the Torah.” Abdullah said, “By Allah, he is described in the Torah with some of what is mentioned in the Quran: O Prophet, We have sent you as a witness, a bringer of glad tidings, and to give warning, (33:45) and to guard over the illiterate, for you are My servant and messenger. I have called you a trustworthy man, who is neither rude nor loud in the markets, nor does he return evil with evil, rather he pardons and forgives. Allah Almighty will not take him back until he has made straight the religion which was crooked, that they will say there is no God but Allah, through which eyes are made to see, ears are made to hear, and neglectful hearts are awakened.”

    Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2125
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Bukhari

Narration by Abdullah ibn Amr regarding Muhammad in the Torah: Refer to link https://sunnah.com/bukhari:4838

Also refer to Abdullah ibn Salam’s conservation with the Prophet (SAW) and how he accepted Islam. Ibn Salam, a former Jew, was learned of the Torah and from the answers he was seeking, it implies that different Torah/scripture was with the Arabian Jews at the time.

Refer to Saheeh Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 7 for this matter.

Another narration regarding Muhammad in the Torah/Gospel:
Narrated by Al Fultaan ibn A’asim:
Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah? He said: No. The Prophet peace be upon him said: Do you read the Torah? He replied back: Yes. Then the Prophet peace be upon him asked: and the Gospel? The man replied: Yes. The Prophet peace be upon him then asked: The Qur’an? The man replied back: No. The Prophet peace be upon him replied back: By He Whose Hand my soul lies, if I willed I would read it. Then the Prophet peace be upon him pulled the man and asked: Don’t you find me in the Torah and Gospel? The man replied back and said: We find someone who is similar to you and your Ummah (community) and from the place where you were brought up and we were hoping that you would be from amongst us. When you rose up (as a Prophet) we were afraid that it would be you. However, we looked and saw that it wasn’t you. The Prophet peace be upon him replied back asking: Why is that? The man said: From him will be 70,000 of his followers from his community who will have no judgment passed on them nor punishment but you have a simple number of men following you. The Prophet peace be upon him replied back: By He Whose Hand my soul lies it is me and it is referring to my Ummah (community). And they are more than 70 thousand, 70 thousand, 70 thousand. (This hadith has been declared authentic by Sheikh Albani in Saheeh Al Muwaarid, page/hadith no. 1765)

    ⬛As for your Question 1:
Most views on the Bible from Muslims is that it has truth but also falsehood. Muslim scholars attempt to find Muhammad in the Gospel of John because Jesus in the Quran prophesises of Ahmad to come after him. So they would try to find something similar in something from before. Just because Ibn Ishaq quotes a few passages of John doesn’t mean the entirety of John is true or other gospels are true, this would be the FALLACY OF DIVISION. Same goes for other quotations of your scripture.

The Qur’an is used as a criterion to identify and judge distortions which seeped into the Truth. Reason being it is the most reliable and recent revelation from Almighty Allah. Refer to Quran 5:48.

    ⬛Question 2:
Read the narrations I quoted above. Despite there being corruptions, Muhammad’s prophecies in the Torah/Gospel were still present to the Arabs in his time.

You equivocate the Injil of the Quran with your Gospel of Vicarious Atonement but you shouldn’t do this because Jesus didn’t atone for the world’s sins according to the Quran 4:157 and he prophesied the coming of Ahmad. And just because there are corruptions doesn’t mean the entirety of the original message has disappeared.

    ⬛Question 3 :
Yes the Gospel and Torah are indeed Allah’s Word. “There is none that can change his words” refers to Allah’s promise/divine decree.

Al-Ṭabarī explains that it means that none can change what Allāh has informed us about in His books that are fixed occurrences (divine decree), and that the People of the Book changed other than that.

Refer also to Quran 6:115. Just from context alone you grasp that it means no one can stop Allah’s promises from being fulfilled.

Allah entrusted the preservation of the Torah to the rabbis and scholars refer to 5:44. They were made keepers of the Torah.

    ⬛Question 4:
Quran 3:3 states Allah revealed the Torah and Gospel but nothing about the entirety of the Torah and Gospel remaining with the Christian and Jewish Arabs.

PORTION of the scriptures are left refer to Quran 4:51, 3:23

    ⬛Question 5:
Refer to my answer in question 3.

    ⬛Question 6:
Regarding the context of Quran 5:43, The Jews had a ruling in their Torah regarding stoning of adulterers (refer to Ibn Abbas’s tafsir).

    Background:
There arose a situation where Jews had to punish an adulterer. They went to the Prophet (SAW) seeking his judgement on what to do with the adulterer. The Prophet informed them to judge the adulterer by their law (which was stoning). The Jews brought the Torah but tried to hide the verse from the Prophet, in hopes of getting a lighter punishment from him but they were caught by Abdullah Ibn Salam, exposing their deception.
Thus 5:43 was revealed, criticising those Jews.

    Regarding 5:47 context
(Let the People of the Gospel judge) such that the people of the Gospel elucidate (by that which Allah hath revealed therein) that which Allah has elucidated in the Gospel REGARDING the TRAITS and DESCRIPTION of Muhammad (pbuh) and the legal ruling of stoning. (Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed) He says: whoever does not show that which Allah has elucidated in the Gospel; (such are evil-doers) transgressing disbelievers. (Tafsir Ibn Abbas, Qur’an 5:47)

    Also remember:
The Qur’an is used as a criterion to identify and judge distortions which seeped into the Truth. Reason being it is the most reliable and recent revelation from Almighty Allah. Refer to Quran 5:48. The Quran has supreme authority on previous scriptures, thus we can identify what Allah revealed in the Gospel, Torah and whatever else Allah revealed before. The people of the Gospel must judge by Allah’s Gospel.

    1. YOU: Who says it is impossible to believe in the Quran, Torah and Gospel at the same time? I think you are under the assumption that the ONLY scriptures Jews and Christians during Muhammad’s time had something similar of Pentateuch and Gospels manuscripts before them. This is not the case as from the narrations of the Companions and the commentaries, it is possible that they had a different Torah and Gospel as well, as these narrations are not found in the bible we have today.

ME: It’s taken me a while to respond to your this post because the arguments are underwhelming. Yes the Torah and Gospel which the Christians and Jews had with them in the 7th century were the same as those found in manuscripts before the 7th century. There is NO historical or archeological evidence of the existence of a DIFFERENT Torah and Gospels anywhere in the world in the 7th century. It’s because the Qur’an lies against Jesus Christ that’s why, in an effort to create a “false reality” and maintain confidence in the lies of the Qur’an, Muslims have to create assumptions and conspiracy theories which fly in the face of archeologically evidence. Do you have any manuscript evidence of a Torah and Gospel used specifically in the 7th century which is different from the present? NO.

Yes it’s impossible to believe BOTH the Torah, Gospels and the Qur’an at the same time! The “Torah and Gospel” which exists in the figment of your imagination, and which you think agree with the Qur’an, does not exist and this is based on FACT, not assumption.

Bro, use common sense. The Qur’an is speaking about many teachings of the Gospel of the 7th century such as:
      1. The crucifixion of Jesus
      2. Jesus as Son of God

Guess what! That is what is contained in the Gospel we have today. The Qur’an unwittingly preserves the message of the Gospel which was in existence in the 7th century!

Think of it this way: let’s assume the Gospel had disappeared in the 8th century and Christians lost memory of it, Christians could easily use the Qur’an as a secondary source from which to extract the message of the Gospel because WHAT THE QUR’AN CRITICIZES ABOUT JESUS CHRIST is what WAS IN THE GOSPEL which was with the Christians in the 7th century.

Muhammad then tries to reconstruct an imposter of Jesus Christ by using heretic and gnostic narratives about Jesus Christ which were going around in the 7th century:https://youtu.be/Ws5mqecoOFY

      1. YOU: It’s taken me a while to respond to your this post because the arguments are underwhelming. Do you have any manuscript evidence of a Torah and Gospel used specifically in the 7th century which is different from the present? NO.

ME: Yes it is very possible that the Torah and Gospel before 7th century likely been in circulation in Arabia, it’s also possible that they had a different Torah and Gospel as well. I stated historical evidence that the Torah that the Jews had in the 7th century is not completely the same as manuscripts before or after, they do not contain any of the verse mentioned:
        https://sunnah.com/bukhari:4838

Your response is not good enough. For this only proves that there were Jews that appealed to the Old Testament at the time before/during 7th century, but not necessarily ALL OF THEM.

Also, it is possible that the Jews/Christians in Arabia could have received this information by oral traditions from the minority of believers that knew some of the original contents of the Torah and Gospel even though that they didn’t have it with them in textual form. This is a possibility that you cannot disprove.

Just because Dark Matter wasn’t discovered before it’s date of discovery doesn’t mean it didn’t exist before its date of discovery. What can we learn from this, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Your appeal to “no evidence”, is poor since it doesn’t strongly disprove anything.

YOU: Bro, use common sense. The Qur’an is speaking about many teachings of the Gospel of the 7th century such as:
        1. The crucifixion of Jesus
        2. Jesus as Son of God

ME: Bro, you are just stuck on manuscripts, manuscripts, manuscripts and making HASTY generalisations that the only Torah and Gospel that can exist are those in your possessions. Even though I have showed you that Jews and Christians at the time of Muhammad appealed to a different Torah and Gospel, with narrations non-existent in your scripture. The Christians of Arabia had the doctrines you mentioned but that does not mean that their scripture and yours are COMPLETELY the same.

YOU:”Muhammad then tries to reconstruct an imposter of Jesus Christ by using heretic and gnostic narratives about Jesus Christ which were going around in the 7th century”

ME: Totally your subjective view, AGAIN. Again you are committing fallacy of post-hoc. On whose authority do you decide what is true and what is not? the church, Holy Spirit? Which denomination has the Holy Spirit? One man’s “canon” is another man’s heresy my friend.
