Can God—the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—be many persons but still be one? Read this beautiful Tanakh Jewish scripture where after appearing to Moses as an angel, God later sends an angel to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt. God says this angel has his NAME in him—meaning the NAME of the angel as well is God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and this angel forgave sins!
You had God in heaven and God on earth but they were ONE with the same name:
“And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”Tanakh Bible Exodus 3:2
“Moreover He (the angel) said: ‘I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.”Tanakh Bible Exodus 3:6
Exodus 3:15″And God said moreover unto Moses: ‘Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is My NAME for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations.”Tanakh Bible
“Behold, I SEND an angel before thee, to keep thee by the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.”Tanakh Bible Exodus 23:20
“Take heed of him, and hearken unto his voice; be not rebellious against him; for he will not pardon your transgression; for My NAME is in him.”Tanakh Bible Exodus 23:21
God’s instruction is strikingly similar to the instruction he gives at the Mount of Transfiguration concerning Jesus (Luke 9:35)
So you have God in heaven whose NAME is ‘the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’ AND you have the angel of the Lord SENT to the Israelites by God but this angel also has the NAME of God in him—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob! Just the same way as the angel of the lord who appeared to Moses as a flame of fire said he would be known by the NAME ‘the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’ Furthermore, this angel SENT by God had the power to pardon transgressions/sins. Only God can forgive sins! So in this situation you have God in heaven and God on earth yet the two are called by ONE NAME. They are ONE.
Jesus was EXACTLY the same! He was called God, forgave sins and said he was ONE with the Father! “I and My Father are one.” Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.John 10:30-31 NKJV
Jesus forgave sins: “And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “My son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak thus? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”Mark 2:5-7
