Muhammad is prophesied NOWHERE in the Bible or in Isaiah 42. Muslims see TWO WORDS and ignore the entire context of the chapter. Jesus stated in his own words that Isaiah 42 is a prophecy about himself! Isaiah 42 can never be the place to look for the prophecy of Muhammad because of 3 main reasons:
1. The Qur’an specifically says to find Muhammad/Ahmed written in the Torah and Gospels! The book of Isaiah is neither in the Torah nor the Gospels.
2. God gives the prophecy of the servant of Isaiah 42. Which God is this? Allah of the Qur’an who is Father to no one (QS 6:100) or the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who spiritually is our Father (Deuteronomy 32:6, Isaiah 63:16, 64:8, Jeremiah 31:9). Jesus Christ and the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah called God, Father. King David would also call God, “Father” (Psalm 89:26).
Isaiah himself makes it clear that this is not Muhammad’s god making the prophecy:
“But you are our FATHER, though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge us; you, Lord, are our FATHER, our Redeemer from of old is your name” (Isaiah 63:16).
“Yet you, Lord, are our FATHER. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Do not be angry beyond measure, Lord; do not remember our sins forever. Oh, look on us, we pray, for we are all your people” (Isaiah 64:8-9).
Remember that Allah of the Qur’an, in no way, shape or form is he FATHER to anyone (QS 6:100). God being our spiritual Father does not mean (as the Greek pagan worshipers of Zues and the Qur’an (QS 6:101) would have Muslims believe too) that it is impossible for us to be God’s children, unless God had genitals and a partner/consort! Allah seems very limited in his ability to relate spiritually to his creation as his children. In his limitation, Allah identifies, in this case, with the pagan gods of Greek mythology.
Having clarified that the god of the Muhammad and the God of Isaiah are not the same God, this destroys the impossible and ridiculous argument by Muslims that just because the Isaiah 42 prophecy mentions Kheda therefore it must be ABOUT Muhammad and FROM his god, the 7th century Allah of the Qur’an!
3. Now let’s look at the text of the prophecy itself. The ENTIRE chapter of Isaiah 42 refers to one subject: the prophecy of ONE servant—the MESSIAH. It does not refer to two (or more subjects). It details the Messiah’s TASK and the REACTION (rejoicing) of mankind in various places of the world (including Keddah) to the news or work of the Messiah. One can’t just abandon the holistic meaning of the entire chapter and point to a single verse or two and then claim those verses are referring to ANOTHER servant!
Who is the servant of Isaiah 42?
It’s easy to know. Just compare the verses in Isaiah 42 to the verses in the Gospels where Jesus announces in the synagogue that he was the one prophesied in Isaiah (42) to fulfil those TASKS.
WHAT THE BOOK ISAIAH (42) SAID:
1A.“Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not CRY aloud or lift up his VOICE, or make it heard in the STREET; a BRUISED REED he will not BREAK, and a faintly BURNING WICK he will not QUENCH ; he will faithfully bring forth JUSTICE.” (Isaiah 42:1-3)
WHAT JESUS SAID:
1B. “But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all; and charged them that they should not make him known: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, BEHOLD MY SERVANT, WHOM I HAVE CHOSEN; My beloved, in whom my SOUL IS WELL PLEASED: I will put my SPIRIT UPON HIM, And he shall shew JUDGMENT TO THE GENTILES. He shall not strive, nor cry; Neither shall any man hear his VOICE in the STREETS. A BRUISED REED SHALL HE NOT BREAK, And smoking flax shall he not QUENCH, Till he send forth JUDGMENT unto victory.” [Matthew 12:15-20]
Clearly, it is Jesus Christ who fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah 42 because the spirit did rest on him: “and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove… “ (Luke 3:22)
QUESTION: since when did the Holy Spirit rest on Muhammad? Where is this in the Qur’an or hadiths?
WHAT THE BOOK OF ISAIAH (42) SAID:
2A. ”I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and have taken hold of thy hand, and kept thee, and set thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the nations; to open the BLIND EYES , to bring out the PRISONERS from the dungeon, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.” [Isaiah 42:6-7 Tanakh Jewish Bible]
WHAT JESUS SAID:
2B “and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim FREEDOM FOR THE PRISONERS and RECOVERY OF SIGHT FOR THE BLIND, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “TODAY THIS SCRIPTURE IS FULFILLED IN YOUR HEARING.” (Luke 4:17-21).
Clearly, it is Jesus Christ who fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah 42 because he made the blind see: ‘He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed and received my sight.” (John 9:11)
QUESTION: since when did Muhammad recover sight for the blind? Where is this in the Qur’an or hadiths?
Once you identify that the servant is the MESSIAH (and his TASKS), then you understand that the REJOICING is directed at the Messiah. The praise which the servant receives is from the ends of the EARTH, the SEAS, COASTLINES, WILDERNESS, CITIES and VILLAGES—places that are all over the earth!
“Let the desert and its cities lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the habitants of Sela sing for joy, let them shout from the top of the mountains” (Isaiah 42:11).
Villages like Kedar refer to the Arabians; which were a heathenish and barbarous people, and well known to the Jews. They are symbolically put to represent all nations in the same circumstances. They were yet to partake of the benefits of his coming, and to have occasion of rejoicing at the coming of the Messiah.
In fact, the book of Isaiah contains a prophecy against the Desert by the Sea— destruction of Arabia and Kedar in the end of the age because of the Babylonian idolatrous practices which Islam, with its centre being in the Desert in Mecca, has incorporated into its religion:
“A prophecy against the Desert by the Sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping through the southland, an invader comes from the desert, from a land of terror“. (Isaiah 21:1)
‘A prophecy against Arabia:… This is what the Lord says to me: “Within one year, as a servant bound by contract would count it, all the splendor of Kedar will come to an end. The survivors of the archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be few.” The Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken (Isaiah 21:13,16-17)
