John 17:3? People who argue against the DIVINITY of Jesus forget to contextualize John 17:3 itself, the FOLLOWING verses and the first chapter and the previous 16 chapters of the book of John! It’s called EXEGESIS! People must not just cherry pick verses which they think tickle their senses, with no understanding of the CONTEXT of those verses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent<\/em><\/strong>“. (John 17:3). <\/p>\n\n\n\n Read the verses following John 17:3 How come Jesus says he was with God BEFORE the world began? Muslims would like for John 17:3 to read “…You, the only true God WHO SENT JESUS CHRIST” but that’s not what the verse says. It says “You, the only true God, AND Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n The verse clearly ASSOCIATES Jesus with God. Jesus explains “God” to be the Father: “and now Father<\/strong>, glorify me with the glory I had with you before the world began”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus answered, \u201cIf I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Fathe<\/strong>r who glorifies me, of whom you say, \u2018He is our God.\u2019 <\/strong>But you have not known him. I know him. John 8:54-55<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Son of God, just like the Father and the Holy Spirit, is God in nature. So John 17:3 is the wrong place to go to for Muslim trolls because it CONFIRMS, instead of rejecting the concept of Jesus being of the same nature as the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Could Islamic literature associate Allah and Muhammad as God by saying “You, the only true God, AND Muhammad whom You have sent.” That would be shirk, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n In Christianity this is not shirk because, as Jesus said, the Father and I are ONE! One God, not two Gods! John 17:3 (the Only true God AND Jesus Christ) confirming what Jesus said about himself and the Father being ONE. The Son is sent? The Son, who is fully God in nature, is SENT. The title ‘Son of God’ simply means that the Word (who in form\/essence is God, spirit and eternal) was revealed or manifested (INCARNATED) in human form at a point in history by conception through the Holy Spirit. During the incarnation, Jesus was temporarily \u201cmade lower than the angels\u201d (Hebrews 2:9), which refers to Jesus\u2019 status. However, Jesus is fully divine. By taking on human nature, Jesus did not give up His divine nature..<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Father is GREATER in ROLE to the Son but equal in NATURE\/ESSENCE \/FORM. Although Jesus is subservient to the Father and is SENT by the Father, the Son is EQUAL in ESSENCE\/NATURE to the Father. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It’s what it is. Progressive revelation is that the Creator is a three PERSONS but a monotheistic BEING\/GOD. That is who he is.
